You fell asleep On the shiny floor of the new boutique Tiny and chic In a suit of clothes that you couldn't keep That made you fell like Meryl Streep In a fetal pose So I drew a breath and I stole the clothes I picked you up Carried you across to the new night club They let you in but not your new boyfriend 'Cause hey, your sweet dreams are made In a linen factory in Spain Then you woke up On the second floor of the seven bus Said you had it tough Said you'd rather walk and you'd had enough And could we talk about some other stuff Like hey, the best meals are made In a murder factory in Maine Hold on My filing cabinet No getting over it Hold on My filing cabinet It's got a hole in it Hey hey The best plans are laid Over sticky summer barricades Hey hey The best plans are laid Over sticky summer barricades

Ghosts 02:57
The ghosts of presents past, unwanted and unwrapped And still under the tree And Friday evening's come Its full of what might come She knows it even then She'll leaver alone again Shadows follow you around Melodies go round and round And underneath your dark horse light There'll be no tenderness to night Just fog in your head And clues all round the bed Sleeping's not the only way to dream You hide and count to three And curse your destiny And count your closest friends And count them once again Every little lie Takes a little peace of mind And then Can you her it breaking for you Fog in your head Clues all round the bed Sleeping's not the only way to dream The tunes make you tense The message makes no sense Sleeping's not the only way to dream Ooooh.

The country that you came from it gone Suffered a heart attack Broken its back in a backlash The country that you came from is gone Left on a hate train Never coming home like a state again And mama don't you wish for it Mama don't you wish for it Mama don't you wish 'Cause something that you're made from is wrong Did I have to tell you that Did you have to steal it back with witchcraft Something that you're made from is wrong But you never see the pain that you cause And mama don't you wish for it Mama don't you wish for it Mama don't you wish You have it all And you just bitch about it Oh how it falls In a dream I have about it The country that you came from is gone Bet you never noticed that Never gonna get it back when you don't have And nothing that you say is ever wrong Even when they come for you Couldn't even tell the truth Did you mean to? And mama don't you weep for it Mama don't you weep for it Mama don' you weep

Trickle down Trickle down the window pane And wash away the hours Dirty clouds Talking down the day Making sure the sun don't get a say Down for the day Smiles washed away Something to say Seeps out that way And oh oh Those rainy rivers flow Over the meaning of it all Down for the day Love fades away Nothing to say Speaks it all day And oh those bitter crystals grow And I get mean to you Why can't we just get on with it? A simple chain reaction Nothing seems to change But it won't ever be the same again Burning a hole in the ground Make the future brighter Turn your world around But you can't trust the rain Can't be sure it's water falling Just can't love a dew morning anymore You thing it's strange and attractive That it won't hurt you now But it has to Sweeter than gold that you found Makes you all the richer Makes the world go round But you can't trust the rain You can't be sore it's water falling You just can't love a dewy morning anymore You can't pick a flower It only turns to poison You just can't hear the future calling anymore

Idiots 03:47
Sometimes I avoided you it’s true Even when you really needed me to Spend the evening with a falling over friend Teasing out the universe Calling out the idiots In a darkened corner of a room In a part of town where nothing is ever true Checking out is the only way you leave As if they’d ever let you As if you had the means to How I’d love to see those sullen features now In the corner of some bar Drinking up the crowd Now it’s much too late to make it right And I’m left to tell you every night That you knew the half of everything As if you had the right to As if you’d ever want to How I’d love to see those sullen features now In the corner of some bar Drinking up the crowd How

Ingenue 06:02
I never meant to Say what I said when you asked me to But in my haste I swore I tasted a thing or two Out in the yellow street light The promise of the empty sweet life I might have seen through The party queen and the ingenue And recognised you For what you did and what you wanted to Out in the yellow street light The promise of the empty sweet life And now I’ve found you And all the strangers that surround you I never cared for The perfect face that I’d been searching for I could have stayed for ten minutes longer I could have played for something much stronger But I had to go I could have stayed for ten minutes longer I could have played for something much stronger But I had to go I never meant to say what I said I never meant to say what I said I never meant to say what I said I should have

Roadkill 03:18
Don’t let the surf get in your eyes There is no holding back the tide And no surprise You want to choke on by I sent a letter to your mama I see it written in the stars tonight Don’t let the dirt get in your mind There is no rolling back the time And no surprise You’re going to lose your mind I sent you roadkill in the post It said that I loved you the most of all If you’d only let me fall Oh Don’t think I’ve ever walked so slow ‘Cause I just had to let you know How I won’t ever let you go Don’t let the surf get in your eyes There is no holding back the tide Don’t let the surf get in your eyes There is no rolling back the time

about

This is the first album by Strand from Dublin in Ireland, a vehicle for the songs of Niall Toner jr and a showcase for the production chops of Leslie Keye. It was recorded and mixed Keye's Arad Studios in Dublin and mastered at Le Mix in the south of France by Joe Chester of A Lazarus Soul.

What they are saying about Can't Trust The Rain:

"Niall Toner has been making music for some years now; his group Strand is the expression of his finely-tuned pop instincts making music that sounds like it’s bound for the top of the pops. Like a fine visual artist, he knows how to apply shadow and light; the breakdown that wraps “Best Laid Plans” is wholly different from the rest of the song, yet it fits perfectly. The scintillating eight-minutes-plus title track qualifies as progressive pop a la 10cc. Can’t Trust the Rain is hereby short-listed for my favorite albums of 2020. " - Bill Kopp - musoscribe.com, USA

"A welcome blast of summer to light the winter dark. A shame it arrived too late for those end of year polls, because it deserves to be right up there. Do yourself a favour." - Pat Carty, Hot Press, Ireland

"These songs are world class" - The Matt Cooper Show, Today FM, Ireland

“No Underground” is an effortlessly beautiful pop composition and the bluesy piano ballad “Country That You Came From” features the subtle vocals of Niall at his best. - Powerpopaholic.com - USA
